As evidence of the growth of rugby in our county, Castleford RUFC are proud to stage this match next Saturday, 18th February, KO 2.00. The Castleford RUFC MA side (Mixed Ability players, adults with learning difficulties) are to play Leeds Hunters RUFC.
It reflects well on the RFU's Core Values and is a success on a number of levels as it demonstrates a willingness on the part of two local clubs, Castleford RUFC and Castleford Tigers, through their charitable arm of Tigers Trust, to work together for the good of their local communities. Leeds Hunters have certainly overcome many barriers to provide opportunities for their players.
The Castleford RUFC MA players attend their weekly inclusive rugby sessions but joining them will be members of the Castleford Tigers' "Give us a try-manage your weight" men's weight management programme - men who a few months ago were not taking part in any exercise at all and all had BMIs of over 25 but who are now developing a camaraderie that is enabling them to take on new challenges and become much active in their own lives and within their own communities.
Thus there is a match that is bringing new players to the club, players who have never played Union before, players who have not played rugby for decades, players from both rugby codes and players with learning difficulties in a truly inclusive game of rugby.
Please come and show your support.
