The new management team welcomes you all to a new ‘season’ of Under 18’s County Rugby. There is much to do in the build to the 2012 – 2013 season. It all starts with a Late Entrants Trial to be held on Tuesday 24th April 2012 at Selby Rugby Club. 4 teams have been selected who will play in limited time games. Could I ask all those selected to arrive no later than 6 pm. The games will begin at 6.30 pm. The intention of the Trial is to make sure that any boys through injury/unavailability/new to the County, who did not go through the District system in the 2011-2012 have the opportunity to be considered for selection for the upcoming Development day.
We look forward to seeing you all on the 24th April.

Chairman Yorkshire U18 Rugby

Yorkshire lads feature in North wins at England trials
A BRACE of victories which in each case hinged to the last kick of the game in their two Divisional Festival matches at Broadstreet RFC over the weekend has earned five members of the North RU Under 18 Clubs and Schools team a place in the England team to face their Irish counterparts at Old Merchant Taylors School, Northwood on April 14, 2012 (12noon).
The North needed an injury time penalty from centre Michael Haley to go in off the upright for their opening 32-31 win over the South West on Friday evening and they then needed a late conversion attempt by wingman Max Stelling to fly just wide before they could claim a 7-5 success over the Midlands in their second match.
“They were both very tense finales, but I think we deserved our successes and I was very pleased for the lads” said Lead Coach Peter Taylor. “Although we scored more points in our opening game, we played much better in the second and improved our performance a good deal.
“That said, we score five tries against the South West and had we been able to add the kicks, we would have been clear. It would have been devastating had we not made that late penalty, but we did and our teamwork really counted. We came back from being behind three times, we used all our replacements to make sure everyone was fully included and we achieved a deserved win.
“We made eight changes to the starting line-up on Sunday to make sure everyone got a start and a fair crack of the whip and we played a lot better rugby. We dominated territorially into the wind in the first-half and increased that supremacy after the break.
“Had that final kick gone over, a draw would have been hard to take because of the way we dominated the game throughout in most areas, with an unblemished lineout display and four strikes against the head at the scrum.
“The result is that we’ve five players in the England side to play Ireland, including four forwards, but I feel desperately disappointed for some of the lads who didn’t make it because they all played so well.”
England will train at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford on March 9 and 10 before playing their first warm-up match there against Northampton Saints Academy on March 11.
A second and final warm-up match will be against Leicester Tigers Academy at Oval Park in Wigston on April 8.
The full England squad is:
Forwards: George Beale (Bromsgrove School, Worcester & Midlands), Gabriel Carroll (St Joseph’s College, Ipswich, Sudbury RFC & London & South East), James Flynn (Stockport GS, Manchester & North), Curtis Greene (St Joseph’s College, Trentham & Midlands), Joe Joyce (South West), Dan Keat (South West), Shaquille Meyers (St Joseph’s College, Ipswich, Diss RFC & LSE), Cameron Neild (Manchester GS, Sale Sharks & North), Jacob Nickson (Fylde, North), Morgan Robinson-Eames (Bishop Burton College, Hull & Midlands), Ed Taylor (Old Swinford Hospital School, Bridgnorth & Midlands), Guy Van Den Dries (Barnard Castle School & North).
Backs: Jordan Burns (Epsom College, Cobham RFC & LSE), Louis Grimoldby (Stamford School & Midlands), Michael Haley (Myerscough College & North), Chris Lord (St Joseph’s College Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds RFC & LSE), Zac Maiden (South West), Henry Purdy (South West), Harry Sloan (Skinners’ School, Harlequins FC & LSE), Max Stelling (Old Swinford Hospital School, Moseley & Midlands), Joe Tarrant (St Joseph’s College Ipswich, Colchester RFC & LSE), Henry Taylor (South West).

Yorkhire 30 - 26 Cheshire
Yorkshire U18s kicked off their season with a good win over Cheshire, out scoring their opponents by 4 tries to 3. After a slow start with Cheshire leading 6 - 3 Yorkshire scored out wide (Jack Hewitt) after an excellent backs move. Then almost immediately scored again after Sam Watkinson put Anthony West through a hole on the blindside, he then drew the full back and put Jacob Robinson under the posts. This certainly settled the nerves and then the home team went on to control much of the game. In the second half, with his first touch of the ball replacement scrum half Cameron Roberts dummied at the base of a ruck and accelerated away to score under the posts. Half way through the second half Cheshire broke the well organised Yorkshire defence for the first time and scored out wide. Yorkshire were now playing some excellent high tempo rugby and again scored an excellent try finsihed superbly out wide by Josh Beaumont. Anthony West added ten points with the boot. Lack of concentration saw Cheshire run in two late tries to close the gap. A very good all round performance by the home side.
