It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of John Greenwood, Privileged Patron, on Friday night.
John was 82 and arrived at Huddersfield Club in 1957 having commenced his rugby career at Ashville College, Harrogate. His impact was considerable and he has been one of the Club’s most successful players.
John played in 532 Matches for the First XV from 1958 to 1985 and was Captain in Seasons 1965/67 and 1972/73. After his remarkable record in the First XV he continued to play with the Extra C Team.
He was a founder playing member [49 appearances] and frequent Captain of the Luddites Rugby Club formed in 1974 to maintain the traditions of the ‘’game’’ playing many School XV’s and Cambridge and Oxford Universities.
His Yorkshire playing career which included Captaincy was from 1965 to 1974 with 37 matches, the most Yorkshire capped player from the Huddersfield Club.
John was Club President in 1991/92 and maintained a regular interest in all the Club activities.
