Girls Beach Rugby - Steve Ball Vote of Thanks
I might be repeating my comments in the Whatsapp group but I wanted to ensure that the messages went through to all clubs attending today - players from 18 clubs attended today and there were around 385 girls from U13s to U18s.
A large section of the South Beach was ‘utilised’ with 10 pitches set out in total for the U18s’ Round Robin and then 2 Round Robin groups for both U13s and U15s, although the tide was an hour earlier than the time stated for High Tide in the Bridlington Tides book that I purchased specifically for the event.
There had to be a few tries scored in the sea before we had to move two pitches, but it did shorten the distance that the girls had to run to go into the sea - and there were far more in the sea than ever I have seen.
My thanks go to everyone for coming and entering into the cooperative spirit to make it happen on the day.
It couldn’t have happened without the help of Mel and Jo from Bridlington RUFC (who did more than they probably imagined and they were great) and Vicki who helped with the registration and the time keeping, and Rob for redrawing the pool for the U18s, and refereeing to the extent that he did.
Today was all about the girls - for them to come together and have fun with their mates and to do something different on the beach - a different surface to what they normally play on.
Thanks again for the referees - again it emphasised how much we need referees to keep the games going - for enhancing enjoyment.
Please pass on thanks to the girls for the spirit in which they played the games - they deserved to enjoy themselves after the past 2 and a half years.
Please thank your parents and supporters for getting the players there.
