Central Yorkshire 20 North Yorkshire 7
This was the last game of the season for North Yorkshire, played in warm weather and sunshine at West Park Bramhope. North started very strongly, forcing an early penalty which was kicked just wide. Successive attacks saw Central pinned back in their own 22 for the first quarter of the match, until a long clearance kick allowed Central to build momentum and score against the run of play.
At half time the score remained 7 nil to the home side, although Will Atkin came very close to levelling the score after a clever kick ahead bounced unfavourably in front of him with the line beckoning.
Central used their superior size and physicality to good effect, scoring an unconverted try early after the break. But North remained committed in their tackling, Elliott Morris and Ben Bond both putting in thunderous hits in midfield.
The scrum was one area of the game in which North dominated, with Danny McCabe and Will Murray particularly strong. But this advantage could not be turned in to points.
The sole North try came from fast hands along the backline and a sharp finish by Elliot Fearn in the corner, converted from the touchline by Ben Bond. This brought the game back into reach at 15 – 7 before a superb solo try by the Central scrum half, darting around the fringes to score, put the result out of doubt.
