Following on from the message sent via GMS to all Club Secretaries.
Please find below the Yorkshire U18s nomination link for you to nominate players for the Yorkshire Girls U18s 2022/23 season.
Program Structure:
The program consists of an Assessment Day, a Development Day & then 3 Festivals, with a training session before each festival, the program starts in late October & finishes in the middle of January. The Assessment Day identifies players suitable to be part of the program by a series of skill and game zones designed and run by the county coaches. These will use the ROSES mnemonic. (See appendix 1 below)
Selection for Assessment and the Squad:
Club & College coaches will be asked to pick players who match the above criteria. Each Club or College is usually limited to 5 Players, however, if a coach feels they have more they can contact the lead coach with reasons why they need more places, and decisions will be made on the lead Coaches discretion.
Players who have previously represented County at U18 level will automatically be invited, as will members of the C of E training group who have been identified as needing more representative playing opportunities or trying a positional change.
The assessment day will then pick a squad of 30 players to form this group.
Development day, training & Festivals:
The selected squad will attend a Development Day in November to do team building tasks and formulate a technical & tactical playing style that suits the players and a 2-hour training session the week of each festival. The aim of the program is to develop players and coaches, take them out of their comfort zone & stretch them in a safe uncertain environment, this could be done by playing players in positions they are not familiar with, though always with safety in mind, or asking coaches to take on a certain role with which they are not familiar.
Festivals are usually a mixture of 10 & 15 a side games, with each player playing at least half of the festivals playing time if fit. The festivals are competitive but focused more on player development & tactical/technical understanding than results.
Next Steps:
The U18 County program is the next step on the player pathway after recently introduced U16 DPP. Players who County & Centre of Excellence (C of E) coaches feel scored highly in the ROSES mnemonic over the course of the program may be invited into the C of E program for further assessment. Last year’s program saw 7 players do this, with 6 entering the C of E Program. From this, players can play at C of E Festivals and progress to the England U18 Program.
