Can I please thank all Club Safeguarding Officers for the hard work that they continue to do each year to ensure that their club conforms to the RFU regulations in relation to age grade and those playing senior rugby. This season we have been shown as a example to other counties due to the hard work of yourselves in ensuring that all coaches and volunteers regularly involved with young people have a DBS and are also attending play it safe courses.
Please consider that next season you will also require a first aider at all training sessions and games, that will also require a DBS.
Clubs have to re-apply for both club and individual player to play into adult rugby.
A number of coaches this season have been refused a DBS across the county, some of these have not replied to enquiries from the disclosure team, that may have resulted in one being issued, but this does serve to remind us that these checks are for a reason, and it is all our responsibility to keep both young people and vulnerable adults safe.
Please have a great summer off, before we again start to prepare for the next season. As always we are here to help and answer any enquiries you may have.
Yours in rugby
Andy Pollard
