Lead Coach Job Description
The Lead Coach will co-ordinate the coaching team and will report to the Chair of Yorkshire Coaching
Roles and Responsibilities
∙ To be a member of the coaching team responsible for the age group.
∙ Plan, in conjunction with the Team Manager individual coaching sessions for the season.
Plan, prepare and deliver individual coaching sessions for the age group squad
∙ Ensure that all sessions are designed to develop the skills and understanding of
the players in the squad.
∙ Evaluate all the coaching sessions and games with the coaching team, team
manager and players.
∙ Attend all trials, coaching sessions, and matches
∙ Liaise with North Personnel in conjunction with grading of players (U18s / U20s)
∙ Work with the age group, Coach Mentor to improve their performance and fellow coaches
∙ The Lead Coach should be committed to furthering his/her coaching skills
and be willing to commit to a programme of CPDs provided by Yorkshire RU / RFU.
∙ Provide feedback to coaches, team management, players and parents.
∙ Provide an end of season report to the team manager, and The Chair of Yorkshire Coaching
Skills and Qualities
Commitment and Enthusiasm – this position will require a large time commitment
involving both evenings and weekends for training and matches.
Punctuality – Coaches sets the standard for the players.
Planning – The Lead Coach will work with the Lead Coach in planning the
coaching programme for the season as well as individual sessions.
Leadership – Set an example and standards for the squad. As
such he/she will need to inspire the players to ensure that they all reach their
potential. He/she may need to make difficult decisions about selection and grades etc.
Team Work – The Lead Coach needs to be able to work effectively with the
players, parents, coaches, manager and the Yorkshire Coaching sub-committee.
Rugby Knowledge – He /She will have attained the RFU Coaching level 2 or above
The Lead Coach should have a sound understanding of the RFU performance
pathway for players, hold a current CRB enhanced certificate and be RFU Coach Licenced.
Notes: 1. Applications for coaching positions where sons/ daughters may be in the squad
will not be considered.
2. Coaches cannot be an official coach of more than one county team.
3. All coaches must adhere to the county team coaching rationale. DF
