The County U18 girls’ assessment day was held last Sunday at Sandal RUFC. There was 53 Players from 13 clubs assessed on the ROSES matrix (Resilience, Observation, Skill, Energy & Space) through a series of conditioned touch games, cross pitch 10 a side and 15 a side scenarios. The conditioned games were run by club coaches invited to take part in the assessment from Hull Ionians, Selby & Cleckheaton, with the players assessed by a panel of 4, consisting of Centre of Excellence coaches, and Ex Yorkshire girls Coach Ian Simons.
With the change in age banding this season, the player pool was smaller than usual, but the standard was high, with only a few players eligible from the C of E to play, this means more players will get the chance to experience representative rugby and hopefully develop further up the girl’s player pathway.
The selected players now move on to a development day at Ossett RUFC on the 13 November, where they will work on teambuilding, values and a playing style suited to the squad.
New lead coach Gary Haywood said “I am delighted to have the opportunity to help develop these players through the County program and hope to create a strong learning environment that helps players and coaches maximise their potential in the upcoming fixtures and beyond. The fact that the players are spread across 11 clubs from all over the County is great news and testament to all the hard work that is being carried out by clubs. “
The first game the team play is a three way tie against Cheshire & Durham at Sandal RUFC on the 27 November.
