Yorkshire RFU Men’s County Team Coaching Announcement
Yorkshire RFU is delighted to unveil the coaching team for the Senior Men’s County side ahead of the 2024/25 Bill Beaumont County Championship.
Leading the setup is Lee Denham, former York RUFC head coach and Yorkshire U18s coach. Assisting him will be Glen Kenworthy as forwards coach and Callum Irvine as backs coach.
A Message from the Yorkshire RFU President
Dave Francis, President of Yorkshire RFU, expressed gratitude to outgoing coaches Pete Taylor and Dan Scarbrough, stating:
“My special thanks go to Pete and Dan, who have transformed the Men’s Senior team and dedicated immense time and effort to preparing them. The County is in a strong place when it comes to the pedigree of our representative coaches. We look forward to Lee, Glen, and Callum building on this platform and leading the squad to further success.”
Taylor and Scarbrough leave their posts after guiding the team to the final at Twickenham last season.
Meet the Coaches
Lee Denham – Head Coach
Lee brings extensive experience as a player and coach. His rugby journey began at Ashton-on-Mersey RUFC, later playing for clubs such as Sale, Leeds Tykes, Worcester Warriors, Otley, and in the British Army.
As a coach, Lee’s tenure includes time with Hull Ionians, followed by leading York RUFC to two league promotions as champions. He also spent four years with Yorkshire U18 boys, helping nurture future talent.
“It’s an honour to head up this incredible coaching team. I’m excited to build on the work done before me and hope to make Yorkshire proud over the next few seasons.”
Glen Kenworthy – Forwards Coach
An accomplished former Premiership and Championship player, Glen played for Rotherham Titans and Doncaster Knights from 1998–2014. As a coach, he has been heavily involved with Doncaster Knights, including a decade as forwards/head coach, and with Yorkshire U20s as both forwards and head coach.
Currently the Director of Pathways and Rugby Development at Doncaster Knights, Glen is passionate about County Rugby:
“County Rugby brings players together to celebrate where they live. I aim to continue raising the profile of Yorkshire rugby, develop home-grown talent, and build a strong brotherhood within the squad.”
Callum Irvine – Backs Coach
Callum steps into the role with significant playing and coaching credentials. As a player, he represented Harrogate, Hull Ionians, Yorkshire Carnegie, Rotherham, Darlington Mowden Park, and Otley. His coaching career includes leading Harrogate Ladies and player-coaching at Otley. Last season, he served as Yorkshire’s assistant backs coach.
“It’s a huge honour to coach County Rugby, especially after playing for Yorkshire at junior and senior levels. I’m excited to take on this role and help build on the fantastic achievements of last season’s coaching team.”
Looking Ahead
The new coaching team is eager to identify talent and prepare for the upcoming championship campaign. Players across Yorkshire should stay sharp, as selectors will be assessing performances throughout the season.
Yorkshire RFU wishes the team the best of luck for a successful 2024/25 campaign!
