- County Teams Double Return to Twickenham -
ROAD TO TWICKENHAM
Congratulations to County Senior Women’s and Senior Men’s teams of the tremendous achievement of reaching the finals of the Gill Burns and Bill Beaumont championships for the second year in a row.
This demonstrates the commitment and desire of Yorkshire RFU to championship and grass roots rugby.
The women’s team led by Tom Baxter have put together a fantastic fate of getting to Twickenham 2 years on the trot to defend the championship that they already hold.
They have had to play 3 games to get to Twickenham, one at home versus Northumberland, 2 away, one at Staffordshire, and one against the old enemy, Lancashire.
In this process they only conceded 6 points and not conceding a single try against them and are looking forward to playing Buckinghamshire in the final at Twickenham on the 21st with a 12 noon kick off.
The senior men started the campaign with a complete new coaching set up lead by Lee Denham.
Lee and his team selected a very strong squad involving players from national 2 down to Yorkshire 1, again reinforcing our commitment to grass roots rugby.
As last year we were positioned in North 1 and had to play the same teams we played last year, Somerset at home and Lancashire away.
This 1st game against Somerset was at Hull Ionians Rugby Club as part of a double header with the U20’s, and the Honda Volunteer of the Year event.
Somerset put up a very spirited performance against the men, but succumbed to the power and strength of the Yorkshire pack.
This set up a ‘Winner Takes All’ game against Lancashire at Fylde and again after a very competitive hard fought game saw the men came out victorious winning 36-22.
booking a repeat trip down to Twickenham to compete in the Bill Beaumont final.
This will be a 17:15 kick off on 21st June 2025.
A fantastic day out at Twickenham.
